Fat Butt Friday: Yoga Smoga

Photobucket
As many of you can tell from my gorgeous, voluptuous body shape, I am not the most balanced, posed, and flexible woman around.  Not that I haven't tried over the years... I just don't have the patience to get down and do it.

When I found out that P90X had a yoga workout, it would be an exaggeration to say I was a little bummed.  Yoga has never been my thing.  I never really saw a point in twisting and contorting yourself into unnatural positions to make yourself feel good.  Because it didn't feel good!  Then I was really upset when I found out it was 90 min long!!!  The first time Ben and I did it, I complained bitterly through the first 45 min until Ben told me to shut up (rather rudely too!)... then I complained under my breath for the last half.

It wasn't until the next week when I started to realize that yoga actually made the other workouts a little easier!  I couldn't believe it... I didn't want to believe it.  Could my bitter enemy actually be helping me?  So I decided that I really needed to get a better attitude and just stick with it... even if I do have a really hard time doing most of the poses.

What?  You think, how bad can I be?  Well, let me draw you a little picture... literally!

The way I look at it, is I will be able to do the poses better when my butt stops weighing me down... it's ruining everything!  Totally messes up my balance and gravity helps it throw me off my groove.  Patience... I tell myself... Patience...

Meanwhile, I hold bitter feelings toward my workout partner whom I like to call:  The Show-Off:

Just don't kick him in the butt when he is doing this... he gets really mad!  I don't understand why... come on, Ben, where's your sense of humor?

Those poses you struggle with are hard for me too, and I cheered and danced my whole life. Don't fret. Go yoga go!

Hey Cuz, I too became a yoga convert this year in order to train for my big walk. I had hated yoga before but have found that power/flow yoga is as addicting as frozen yogurt. Not only do I sweat like a fiend and have gained some very nice muscle definition, but it's also a serious stress reliever. I absolutely love it, even the hard times, because yoga is about accepting yourself where you are RIGHT NOW. As my yoga teacher once said, "You don't need patience if you practice acceptance." And if right now you are face first on your mat with your feet twisted beneath you in an ungodly manner, then so be it. The key to yoga is to feel every pose. If you love it. Love it. If you hate it. Hate it. If you feel unbalanced. Embrace the uncertainty! I know I sound like a hippie, but yoga is a not a workout. It's a life practice.

If it makes you feel any better, I've done 2 full rounds and still can't do crane. You're doing awesome - keep it up!

Yoga and I have a love hate relationship. I love to hate it. lol My oldest daughter on the other hand is amazing and really serious about it. She loves it. And the P90X one is a killer yoga workout. I like doing it on my off days.
